We Need A Name! - Pro Shop [14 Jul 2008|11:02am]

catbp
My boyfriend and I just got back from Kentucky, we went to a Powerhouse Training clinic and we both got certified . We will be renting the space from our bowling alley (the name is Galaxy Lanes) but we want to get us some catchy name that has to do with bowling. The name now is Pro Shop. Exciting, huh? So we want to come up with something for us.

Any ideas?

Nationwide Invitational Games 2008 [12 Jul 2008|01:02am]

kingbowser123
The national Special Olympic bowling invitationals have arrived once again and this year they are being held down in my current hometown - Adelaide, South Australia. Bowlers from all over the country will be here to compete in singles, doubles, and in teams.

Back in November I took part in a invitational down in the country region which was to celebrate the opening of a bowling center over there. This was my report on it and only bowlers from within the state participated as far as I know.

As far as form goes, I'm doing quite nicely. Lately I have been bowling a lot more 100+ games and haven't significantly flunked any of the games. My average has improved to approximately 110 which is great for me. I recently bowled a game of 169 in Wednesday night's group and got congrats from everyone which was definitely a feel good moment. Let's hope I can reproduce that kind of form in the competition :)

I really should be going to bed now other I won't be bowling so well and we don't want that now surely? ;)

I notice that there are a lot of bowlers on LJ that are pros and I just thought I'd post this to get a better idea of just how you's bowl. Seems hook/curve balls are the way to go these days.

Poll #1149216 What is your Bowling Style?

Bowling Style?

Straight ball
2(18.2%)
Hook/Curve ball
9(81.8%)

Hello [24 Dec 2007|02:39pm]

-Name: Helen
-Age: 22
-When you bowl (and if you're in a league or bowl on a school team): Wednesday night is league, then tournaments often at weekends and I fit in practise when I can...if I can't, I work out.
-How long you've been bowling:  Started playing when I was 8 years old and played in the odd youth tournament. It was only when I moved to Northern Ireland in 2004, that I realised I could take it more seriously and that I was actually quite good. I'm now back in England.
-Location: London

Starting avg: God only knows!
Highest avg to date: 201 for a monthly league, high league average apart from that was 198, tournament was 200 for last season.
Current avg: 190ish. I'm not getting on too well with the centre I'm now bowling in - very dry lanes which don't suit me.
High game: 299
High series: 734

I'm a former Northern Ireland international and I competed in the Bowling World Cup in St Petersburg last November. :)

Hello everyone! I just joined this community and I'm happy to be here. The obligatory:

-Name: David
-Age:23
-When you bowl (and if you're in a league or bowl on a school team): I bowl in a league on Monday nights, occasionally practice on weekends (although not much recently)
-How long you've been bowling: I've been bowling since I was about 10 and bowled until about 18. I had to stop bowling on a regular basis during college, but I've been bowling again for the past year or so.

Starting Average (2006): 125
Highest Average to date: 161
Current Average: 158 (about a third of the way through our 33 week league)
Highest Game: 245
Highest Series: 534 (120/245/169)

For leagues I'm fairly competitive, but otherwise I bowl casually with friends and like having a good time. I got my first reactive ball about 6 months ago, a 15 pound Jinx by Columbia. It has a relatively low hook rating (or at least that's what I understand -- I'm not the most knowledgeable bowler yet) and I'm thinking about stepping the hook up with a new ball when this league ends.

Fun fact: my highest game ever was my 2nd league game with the new ball. It also started off with a gutter ball. You never know what's going to happen!

I live somewhere in the Seattle area. I'd love to meet anyone around here for a few games!

Berri Regionals 2007 results. [10 Nov 2007|01:54am]

kingbowser123
I owe it to everyone who responded to my post about my weekend of bowling out in the country to do an update of the weekend.

Berri is a country town 3 hours from my residence in Adelaide, Australia so it proved to test everyone's patience not to mention our thinking skills. The "bus" could barely fit our belongings, let alone ourselves.

Firstly to clear any possible confusion up this is not anything like the "PBA" regionals. Also the PBA is in America and I live in Australia. I was in a lower-level competition aimed at the elderly and those who suffer from physical and/or intellectual disabilities.

We were split into divisions for each of the following settings. Not that I can remember if I was in division C or D or whatnot.

Singles - 130, 144, 97. My most exceptional round of the weekend. If I was going to prove myself in any area, it had to be the singles. I won gold.

Doubles - 106, 95, 105. Modest. I got kind of lucky in that my partner was having a good round in the doubles. I did my bit by not bowling like complete utter crap. Somehow we were the top doubles team for our division.

Teams - First two were 90-something and then 102 I think (don't remember). Even though we lost 2 out of 3 against our opponents next to us we did not lose by much and when we won the difference I think was around 100 pins technically giving us silver and them bronze. The gold was won by the other group, which I don't remember.

Medal Pics. Sorry if I look ugly, heh.Collapse )

All-in-all I think I have done a reasonably good job for myself ;).

Regional Bowling Tournaments. [03 Nov 2007|12:01am]

kingbowser123
I'm off to the regional bowling tournaments being held out in the country tomorrow.

I have improved my average by around 15-17 pins since I started last year. It is now 107 and my handicap is 93.

I'll be back with an update in a day or two since I most likely will not have Internet access whilst I am over there.

Hope everyone is bowling well these days.

State Bowling games. [05 Jun 2007|11:31pm]

kingbowser123
This Saturday I am going to be taking part in a state bowling competition. I don't specifically know how many leagues in the state are taking part but I know that they have booked out the nearby alley for the weekend.

I think I have reached good form in time for the state games with scores of 140, 123 and 132. My current average is 106. Earlier on I was going through a flat patch where my scores were below 100, sometimes under 80. This usually happens when I don't close any of my frames.

I hope I do well in this, cos there may be a medal in it for me if I do ;-).

I'll do a report when the weekend is over and out.

[ mood | DON'T HATE ME! ]

+ Hey guys,
first of all i just wanted to say sorry for all the trouble my writing caused the groups. I just thought you guys would like to see my writing, i didn't know it was going to cause such a stir. Probably if it wasn't on such a sensitive topic it wouldn't have been as bad.
I do enjoy bowling however. Mainly tenpin but i do do candlepin if i have to (i suck at candlepin) my Average is 192 for tenpin, i haven't been candlepin in so long i forgot what my average was. I also enjoy watching the professional bowlers on TV when they're on.

Intro [04 May 2007|10:03pm]

kingbowser123
Hi fellow bowling fans.

Name's Tom ;).

I started out bowling with an average of 92 and now I have moved up to 109 over around 6-8 months.

It's a fun sport, isn't it? You don't necessarily have to be super-fit to play it either :-D.

In the past couple of weeks though I have fallen into a rough patch where most of my scores are below 100 :(. I'm not sure what I am doing specifically wrong. It's a bit tricky when you have to focus on several things at once :(.

All I know is that the ball follows the direction of the arm as it's released. If it's aiming at the gutter well I don't need to tell anyone here where the ball is going to end up LOL.

I have only just set up a new bowling community tenpinbowlers. I'm looking for anyone who has an active interest in bowling. I'm struggling to find any seriously active bowling-dedicated communities here at the moment.

Nice to meet you all ;).

Regards,

-- Tom.

A lil dusty... [23 Feb 2007|10:43pm]

[ mood | relaxed ]

I miss bowling. Back in the good old days (at Skyway Park Bowl) I used to bowl on every Saturday league. My first consistent league average was about 165, which managed to squeek up to around 180 around my senior year in H.S. I have a 15 lb. Firestorm, colored a dark aqua green, and a Complete Chaos 16 lb. which I'm currently trying to sell. I hepe to get back into a league soon when I'm settled in my own place.

If there's anyone in the Seattle area who would like to go bowling sometime (sup ladies!), lemme know.

[ mood | satisfied ]

I just joined this community (and livejournal) and decided to join this.
I bowl practice about 2-4x a week and and am currently bowling in one league (though in fall I bowl in three). I average about 190, though I hope to make that higher. I bowl out here in Hawaii. I really don't know what my high scores are. I've been bowling for four years and am quite determined to get much better.

Hi my name is Tom, help save a bowling alley. [13 Mar 2006|06:50pm]
rush0304
Hi my name is Tom I am glad I joined this site. I normally bowl every saturday night in Brooklyn New York, for mark lanes bowling alley. I have a 151 average, with a 212 high game and a 520 scratch, though I had a bad week this week. Just a 160 game, and a 439 scratch.

Unfortunately my bowling alley of 10 years may close, why you may ask? Because as usual a department store century 21 which seems to be buying stores in the area, wants to build a 280 car parking lot with a floor of retail. Well I am trying to do a few things to stop it, for one I have a petition at www.petitiononline.com/rush06 which has nearly 1000 signatures already in just less than two months. I have also been interviewed by the new york times, daily news, and bascially every newspaper in my community.

Thousands upon Thousands use the lanes here, from schools, seniors and in between including my two brothers. The nearest center also may close as well, if you can please sign my petition I would certainly appericate it, I love bowling every saturday for 10 years it has been the place I could go to and count on, if this happens I don't know what will happen, but my sn is brcshar4 if anyone ever wanted to talk bowling or anything else, well thanks.

What's up! [26 Oct 2005|03:21pm]

Hi. I just joined this community and wanted to introduce myself. I bowl in two leagues in San Diego and my average is hovering around 160 but it needs to go up! I practice constantly and have recently fixed some grip problems I had. I was using Rosin for non slip but in fact it was making me drop the ball more! I've moved on to grip cream and it's fantastic! I shot a 267 in practice the other night. By the way, I throw a Storm Vertigo.
